KATKA  NEVEU

Born in Brno (Czech Republic). Studied Theatrology at Masaryk University in Brno. Married in Austerlitz. Lived in Amsterdam, Prague, London, Berlin and returned to Prague. Achieved a PhD. in French contemporary drama and translated more than thirty theatre plays from French to Czech. During this time discovered that words can´t always say everything and that sometimes colour and form express better what you are trying to say. Since then, spend most of the time painting. Not afraid of adding different materials (sand, wood, pearls on acrylic and wine, coffee or tea on watercolour) paintings. Acrylics, mixed media, watercolour and ink are her favourites. Enjoying urban sketching outside but always putting the final touch in the studio.  In 2024, she started her long‑term project ICONIC PRAGUE, telling the story of the city by mixing its iconic landmarks with her own favourite spots.

London, Berlin, Paris, Lille, Lyon, Brussels, Geneva, Barcelona, Milano and USA (not to mention Czech Republic) are the places where her art hangs on the walls of happy collectors.

Katka is  accepting commissions and painting your favourite beauty spots or beloved places.

ON TV SCREENS: Les Echappées Belles in Prague

In autumn 2024 Katka appeared on the renowned French TV program Les Échappées Belles (Beautiful Escapes), in the episode Un Week-End à Prague. She guided journalist Sophie Jovillard through the city, sharing both its iconic landmarks and her favourite spots — the very places that often appear in her artworks.

Together, they rode the historic tram from Prague Castle, visited the National Theatre, stopped by the famous Cubist House at the Black Madonna, and wandered through the city exploring the many layers of the beloved Czech word "pohoda".

The Process

First exploring places, getting lost in urban landscapes, looking for breath-taking views.  Absorbing their atmosphere. Drawing a rough sketch. Capturing everything on paper without forgetting the detail. Then slowly abstracting and deconstructing. Adding both ornament and colour. Spots, dots, splashes, spilling wine, coffee or tea. Playing with paper, pencils, pens, ink, brushes, paints, lids, pipettes, foil, salt and much more.

Hundred paintings, hundred smiles.
