Solo Exhibition: Iconic Prague – Shards of City. Shards of Life
Katka Neveu | Gallery of Vrtba Garden | September 20–30, 2025 | Open 10 am - 6 pm
Following the launch of her long-term project Iconic Prague in 2024, where she unveiled the first five paintings of the cycle, Katka Neveu returns with a new chapter: ICONIC PRAGUE. Shards of City. Shards of Life. This solo exhibition presents several new works that continue her poetic exploration of Prague's identity.
Inspired by Italo Calvino's novel Invisible Cities, Katka blends iconic monuments with intimate, personally significant places—creating dreamlike urban landscapes. Her technique combines collage with ink and watercolor, evoking a sense of memory, fragmentation, and emotional resonance.
As both a painter and a translator, words and literature hold a vital place in Katka Neveu's life. Inspired by the recent centenary of Franz Kafka's death, she has dedicated several paintings to this Czech-German writer—exploring his connection to the city of Prague and to the renowned journalist Milena Jesenská. Fragments of their correspondence even appear within one of the paintings.
Although not formally part of the Iconic Prague project—having been created in a different technique and format—Katka's Kafka paintings deeply resonate with the atmosphere of the city, and are therefore included in the exhibition. These works reflect the emotional and literary layers of Prague, offering a tribute to Franz Kafka and Milena Jesenská.
In addition to the main cycle, visitors will also be able to discover ink drawings and dry point prints, expanding the exhibition's dialogue between memory, place, and artistic expression.
Step into a world where Prague is not just seen, but felt.
The exhibition is currently on view at the Gallery of Vrtba Garden, Prague, from September 20 to 30, 2025.
